If you are interested in joining my lab, please email and tell me about your background and interests. Also, visit our graduate student webpage for an overview of our program. You will notice that our department is divided up into sections and that I am currently in the MCB section. Do not take this to mean that I only accept students that are interested in molecular or cellular biology questions, or that prospective students must state an interest in the MCB graduate group to join my lab. Our students are Department of Biology graduate students first and sectional affiliation is secondary. I have students that are in the MCB and the Evolution and Ecology Programs, and I also have students that develop independent training programs that better prepare them for integrative research across disciplines. In general, I strongly encourage students to be knowledgeable and respectful across biological disciplines and to have strong backgrounds in genetics, genomics, and evolutionary biology. A passion for salamanders helps too!
Graduate students in my lab are supported by teaching and research assistantships, however most of my students are supported by research assistantships after the first year. I support students over the summer so that they can focus entirely only their research projects. I encourage all prospective students to apply for NSF fellowships.
Please email if you are interested in joining my lab. As can be seen from my website, my group is interested in a diversity of research questions. Because I receive funding from both the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), I encourage all prospective applicants to apply for fellowship opportunities through these agencies.
